FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How effective is telepsychiatry?
We build telepsychiatry programs that increase access to psychiatric providers in underserved communities. Our services improve clinical outcomes, and community health and wellness. Using telepsychiatry, individuals can receive treatment regardless of their location. Over the years, many well designed studies have been conducted demonstrating the clinical equivalency between a traditional face to face session and one conducted via telepsychiatry. You can visit our online resource center to review these studies.
Why do providers choose telepsychiatry?
• Flexibility to live anywhere, as long as you maintain licensure for the state in which your patients are located. You make your own schedule. Many providers choose to supplement their existing in-person practice by doing telepsychiatry during off-hours.
• Convenience of working from your home office if you choose. You can even work while you are traveling, as long as you have a reliable internet connection.
• Eliminates many hassles of private practice and employment. No unnecessary meetings. All the scheduling and billing is taken of care for you. You get paid even when patients no-show and you get paid fast.
• You become part of the solution. 96% of US counties currently have an unmet need for psychiatric prescribers, and you help bridge this gap by offering services to these patients. It is an incredibly rewarding experience providing care to these patients, who would otherwise not have psychiatric care available.

Am I an employee?
You will work as an Independent Contractor, and receive the FULL, untaxed compensation. You will pay taxes directly to the government. Our providers usually form a company, and take advantage of the tax savings that come with being an Independent Contractor. As the owner of your own company, you can choose to provide yourself with benefits and then count them off on your taxes. Things that can be considered company expenses: life insurance, umbrella insurance, health insurance premiums, a corporate automobile and its mileage and upkeep, office equipment and supplies, office rent (or a portion of your home rent/mortgage if your office is set up at home), CME expenses, business-related travel expenses, professional reference books and subscriptions, etc.
What are the hours?
You tell us what days and hours you wish to work, whether on a PT or FT basis. We will identify clinics that can accommodate your preferences. Most of our providers work weekday bankers hours type of schedules. Typically there are no call requirements. We usually have weekend and call opportunities available for additional pay.
Is this locum tenens?
We provide facilities with on-going staffing rather than locum tenens. Our providers enjoy great job security and continuity of care. Our average psychiatrist stays with us for many years.
Who are your typical providers?
Our psychiatrists choose to work with us for a variety of reasons. Some have personal/family obligations which keep them from working full time, while others enjoy flexibility in their schedules. Many providers want to provide psychiatric care and treatment, without the challenges of managing a private practice. Many psychiatrists want to provide care to disadvantaged individuals. Our psychiatrists derive enormous personal and professional satisfaction from providing conscientious care and treatment via our telepsychiatry services.
What will be my responsibilities?
You will provide psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients. Prescribe medication, if applicable, to patients as deemed necessary and conduct medication management. Ongoing collaboration with physicians or other professionals to discuss treatment plans and progress as deemed necessary. Document in the patient's EMR.
Can medication be prescribed using telepsychiatry?
Yes. Our psychiatrists may prescribe all psychotropic medications for patients using our e-prescribing services.
Where do patients receive services?
Patients go to their local community mental health clinics. The clinics have videoconferencing setup, and support staff on-site to assist the patients.
Are patients comfortable with telepsychiatry?
Yes! In fact, many individuals prefer receiving treatment via telepsychiatry. We are typically able to get the patient in to see a psychiatrist within days. The alternative for most patients is that they have to try to find a psychiatrist, then wait several months for an initial appointment, and then drive hours to see the provider. Many individuals appreciate the privacy telepsychiatry affords and feel more comfortable seeing psychiatrists remotely, without worrying that they will encounter their psychiatrists in their community.
Are services on-demand or scheduled in advance?
Our clients contract for a specific number of hours per week. Services are delivered on schedule, at times that have been mutually determined by the clinics and our providers.
How much time can I spend with patients?
We encourage you to provide the same exemplary care you would to patients in a traditional setting. As a guideline 45-60 minutes are typically allocated to conduct intake assessments, and follow-up medication management sessions are typically 15 to to 30 minutes.
Is enrollment in Medicare/Medicaid/Insurance panels necessary?
Our providers are enrolled in Medicare, Medicaid and some private payors.
Will I need to invest in new equipment?
All that is required is a laptop or tablet equipped with a webcam, and a high speed internet connection. The majority of existing computers or laptops are telepsychiatry-ready. There is typically no need for you to invest in or learn any new technology. For providers who work with us 20 hours or more a week, we provide what the providers need.
Is the software difficult to learn?
We have a simple to use, HIPPA compliant software for videoconferencing. The clinic you work with will train you to use their EHR for documentation and electronic prescribing. Our team will provide comprehensive training in advance, so that you are confident and comfortable prior to conducting your first session.
Will there be team members on-site with the patients?
A collaborative working relationship between our providers and the on-site clinical team (including primary care physicians, Nurses, PAs, LCSWs) is something we value immensely. Patients will work with you remotely, but the rest of the team will be on-site with the patients.
Can you describe the workflow?
Workflow is very similar to on-site outpatient clinic work. Clinics schedule new and follow up patients on your scheduled days and hours. They also do intake assessments prior to the first appointment with you. Staff will check-in and room the patients once they arrive for their appointment. Staff will assist the patients in using the videoconferencing technology. You will see the patient, and once you finish the appointment the staff will assist the patient with making followup appointment. You will provide the CPT billing codes for services rendered, e-prescribe medications as necessary, and document the encounter in the EHR.
